St Catharines for the day – Planning
My GO timetables tell me that there are many train/bus trips each weekday:
Toronto |
St Catharines |
---|---|
6:13 |
8:15 |
6:55 |
9:27 |
7:43 |
10:19 |
And
St Catharines |
Toronto |
---|---|
16:44 |
19:11 |
17:44 |
20:11 |
18:44 |
21:11 |
The first bus (6:13) is a two-hour trip; all other trips are 2½ hours.
The 6:13 out and the 18:44 home gives me about ten hours in St Catherine’s (two hours longer than VIA rail) and will cost me significantly less. VIA Rail is only 1 hour 40 minutes on the train, but the rigidity of one train only makes it impractical.
A hybrid would be to head out by GO train at 6:13 and (exhausted?) get the 18:08 VIA rail home. But in a sense, who cares? I have my Spanish podcasts ...
Also, if the new GO station is open I may be able to hop on to the fabulous Express bus from Hamilton? NO! The Go #12 does not run through Hamilton – it connects with the Lakeshore trains in Burlington. Go Figure!
Fares
Seniors pay $3.00 cash or a 10-ride ticket for $20.00; the downtown terminal is at 70 Carlisle St. between King & St. Paul.
The VIA ticket will cost close to $70 I am sure, but I could make a firm booking, getting the lowest price possible, and if it rains – well I’ll have a bag packed with lunch and goodies and a 10-ride pass.

There are 31 routes; too many to cover in one day.

Monday, November 02, 2015
Tomorrow the weather looks like 19° and 5% POP.
On top of that Fire Alarm testing is scheduled in my building 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Both good incentives to head off with a packed lunch.
I shall sling an electric jug out of the train at Clarkson for my friend (who lacks an electric jug).
I have $32.70 on my Presto Card. According to the GO Transit fare calculator page the return trip should cost $16.25.
